nextbrew ships three things for AI coding agents:

  • Agent Skill: a SKILL.md that tells an agent to use nb and nbx, and when to stop and ask.
  • AGENTS.md: a short block to paste into a project so every agent that reads AGENTS.md picks nb over brew.
  • llms.txt: these docs as plain Markdown, for agents that read the docs themselves.

Running tools with nbx

nbx is the easiest way for an agent to use a tool once. It runs a formula’s command, installing the formula first if needed, and does not link anything into your prefix.

nbx jq --version

For anything the project needs to keep, use nb install <name>. For updates, nb outdated --json gives output a script or an agent can parse.
